Call for volunteers now open

Tēnā koe,

A big HELLO from TEDxWellington’s new organiser team! That’s me (Alex Matthews, new Licensee), Tania Smith, and Ciaran Jack.

If you’ve been following our socials, you’ll be aware that this year we rebooted the event with a new strategy for sustainable leadership, rotating Licensees, cultural accessibility and the heart of what makes a good TEDx events: finding amazing talent and Ideas worth spreading.

You’re receiving this as you’ve been a previous volunteer for a TEDxWellington event. Most of you have worked alongside us as volunteers in the past. We’re reaching out to you first, before the wider public, to see if you’re interested in joining the team again!

Our main event is coming up in mid-April. The details of this are still being ironed out but should be clear in the coming couple of weeks. The roles we are looking to fulfill are:

Community outreach and engagement: Working with our extensive database of partners and communities in Wellington to get them involved; in encouraging people to apply to speak, holding watch parties, attending the event, contributing in some way

Speaker coaching: Joining the coaching team to be paired with a speaker or performer, to help and guide them in their journey to be stage or screen ready. Experience in doing this before is a must have

Interactions designer: Do you like building or designing stuff? How about coming up with cool ideas for engaging people to be inspired and share thoughts in non-obvious ways? It’s the interactions at TEDxWellington that glue the whole event together. Read about how our 2017 event achieved this by skipping down the event review to the Interactions section.

Design / illustration / artwork: We are looking for an experienced designer to join and support the current design team, being lead by the good folk at Obvious Agency. A great opportunity to work with the TEDx brand and an energetic, skilled design team.

Usher / operations team: Helping people flow around the venue and direct them to where they need to be is one of the most essential roles. If cat herding is your thing, please put up your hand for this!

Photography: If you love capturing photographs of people while they’re meeting new friends, discovering new ideas, and having their minds blown by incredible performances, then this is the volunteer opportunity for you.

Social media team: At TEDxWellington we’ve always prided ourselves on high quality, regular social content. After all, we are a community of story tellers; of people who get energy from broadcasting the brilliance of others. We are looking for talented copywriters to join the team.

Hospitality team: Food and beverage is always a big part of the event. We’d love to identify a few people who can help out on the day to manage general catering operations.

Volunteer management and general team support: Vital to make the whole event work are leaders who are able to provide management support to various volunteer teams and efforts. If supporting others and logistics is your forteigh, this may be the role for you.

Join us in putting on this ambitious new TEDxWellington event for 2024. We are not looking to just pull of one event, but rather this effort represents the beginning of a new long-term initiative to sustain ongoing annual events, with ever-robust infrastructure and reproducible formulas for success. Help us embark on this journey and make it happen with us!
